Ceramics: the art of making pots, bowls, TILEs etc. by shaping pieces of clay and baking them until they are hard (LONGMAN).
They are so delicate which needs a lot of care and patience in both shaping and baking. A little mistake can become a big fate or it can even spoil a piece. Their origin, clay, has to be in good condition as well.
Ceramics is one of Japanese traditional art which is less popular in the present days.
Have you ever known what kind of person made a piece? I do.
My late grandfather was a normal official worker and helped relative's business after his retirement. he had nothing to do with ceramics. And he started learning ceramics for his hobby one day. he spend after work and weekends going to school and making ceramics. A couple of years later, he had his own ehibition. A couple more years later, he becomes on the complete works of arts in Japan.
He was always a granpa. But, he was somewhat a little different when he is making pots.
No words. Strong eyes. I saw him as a real ceramist.
I love his pieces. It's hard to tell how, but they can tell his character.
Ceramics do tell us about the creator.
Please take a look, carefully.
